Boom Shaka Laka Boom!
Hi everybody! Thought I'd put out a little update keeping everyone abreast of the progress up here in paradise! This is a pic of my daughter Jennifer w/a Stainless Tanfoglio TZ-75 in 9mm. She's a crack shot w/any of my 1911-A1s in either Super 38 or 45 ACP as well as with her Ruger Blackhawk in .38/.357 Magnum....
She's working up to .45 Long Colt soon w/a pair of Colt 1873 Peacemaker SAAs as her horsemanship improves and she prepares to enter into the world of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. Her horse, Lily, is a registered Paint brood mare who just turned 4 last month. She's still being boarded w/our local trainer Joe Misner (http://mustang4-u.com/ - http://www.hidesertstar.com/articles/2007/08/15/sports/sports1.txt - http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/info/newsroom/2008/march/CDDNews0832_mustangchallenge_misner.html ) at his "Two Ponies" ranch and BLM satellite adoption center in Johnson Valley, but will be coming home next month. We're looking for an ole bessie mare or gelding that's already seen and done it all, coz Lily's still a bit green and so is Jennifer, but Lily and Jennifer will have plenty of time to grow up together as each one of them gains a bit more experience on the trail. Lemme know if you come across one for Jennifer coz she needs a seasoned horse to begin her mounted shooting training.
While you're at it, you may want to let people know about all the good work that Joe's doing w/these Mustangs. These majestic animals are typically smarter and more sure-footed than their purpose-bred cousins, having foraged and ranged wild for dozens of generations. Let's hear it for natural selection!
Did you know that mustangs can only come up for adoption three times before they're able to be sold for dog food to processing plants in Mexico? Makes ya wanna adopt one just to let it go free don't it? You can, actually (not completely free, but they make nice pets roaming around your property regardless of whether you've spent the time to get 'em ready for the saddle or not).
Well, if you're interested, give Joe a jingle and see what you can do to help. Local folks here are amazed at just what he can do w/a horse - such as taking a crazy stallion and gentling him to the point of riding him in a matter of 45 minutes or so (as one of our cowboy shooting customers here keeps talking about).
Joe's getting ready for another "Extreme Mustang Makeover", this time out here on the left coast. Last time he beat out most all of the big name/big money trainers like they were schoolgirls, and we have a feeling he's gonna do even better this time. Some coverage of the Extreme Mustang Makeovers is aired on RFD TV. Seeing the way a wild horse immediately responds to him is truly fascinating, and you can catch him next door at the feed store (http://CowboyCorral101.com ) during one of their regular (and FREE) equine clinics. Check their website for more details.
While we're at it, let's not forget that things are getting prepared up in Pi-Town for the SASS folks and tourists. In a couple of weeks the http://gunfightersforhire.com folks will be putting on their weekend shows there and they're looking for volunteer actors - no experience needed (but you might wanna stop by the shop and purchase an old-timey replica gun from the wild west days or some blank ammunition so you can be one of the gunslingers). Contact Jubelum Chance (

Troy DeHart was the big winner of our Black Powder Rifle Giveaway! and the brand new owner of a gun he has so far only cleaned several times since his wife has him too busy doing yard work right now - but he's itchin' to get out there and try it out as soon as he can. Congratulations on your new .50 Caliber rifle, Troy! 100% of the proceeds (including my wholesale cost) went towards the new roof fund at the New Testament Baptist Church in 29 Palms (We're glad we could help!).
Well that's about it for today, but check back early and often for the happenings here and around the rancho! |
